The Hingham School Committee voted to approve several personnel- and labor-related matters during its December meeting.
Contract with drivers: Carrie Nee, chair of salary negotiations, summarized a tentative agreement reached with the Hingham Bus and Van Drivers Association covering the period from 2026 through 2029. Key provisions highlighted included increased tuition reimbursement to cover required driver training, a change from weekly to biweekly pay, the addition of July 4 as a paid holiday for drivers working before and after that date, parental leave parity, and wage increases intended to keep driver pay competitive. The union ratified the agreement; the committee approved the memorandum of agreement by roll-call vote.
Appointment: Superintendent Katie Roberts recommended that Erica Pollard be appointed as permanent assistant superintendent after an interim period beginning Sept. 24. Roberts cited Pollard’s leadership in curriculum initiatives, expansion of pathways at Hingham High School, federal grant management, and experience with ELL and civil-rights monitoring. The committee approved a three-year appointment by roll-call vote; Pollard thanked the committee.
HEA contract language and early-retirement date: The committee approved proposed updates to HEA Unit A, article 27.3 (replacing the term 'nurse coordinator' with 'nurse manager') after the superintendent said the change was collaboratively developed with the HEA and supported by nurses. The committee also voted to extend the early-retirement notification deadline in the HEA contract to 01/31/2026 to assist district budget planning and to provide teachers additional time to elect retirement incentives.
No dissenting roll-call votes were recorded in these items; motions passed with affirmative votes from the committee.
