At the opening of the Dec. 30 court session, the Washington County Commissioners Court recognized Precinct 4 constable K9 Aspen for his service. Speaker 6 read a tribute noting Aspen’s “loyalty, bravery, and unwavering service” to the citizens of Washington County and announced Aspen’s end of watch.

Speaker 6 said the K9 answered every call and asked attendees to "Rest easy, K9 Aspen. You are relieved of duty. You will never be forgotten." The court recessed briefly for a group photograph of handlers and service animals and then reconvened for the regular agenda.
