The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors unanimously elected Supervisor Mark Nelson as chair and Supervisor Dave Dietrich as vice chair at its organizational meeting.
Nelson won the chairmanship after a nomination and a roll-call vote. The motion to elect him was moved by Bittinger and seconded by Carper; the roll call recorded Carper, Dietrich, Nelson, Ung and Bittinger voting "Aye," and the motion carried 5-0. Shortly after the outcome was announced, the board declared Nelson the new chairman.
The election for vice chair proceeded by nomination. Supervisor Dave Dietrich accepted the nomination and the board elected him on a roll-call vote that was recorded as 5-0.
In brief remarks after the votes, Supervisor Mark Nelson thanked outgoing Chair Dan Bindrum "for being a great team player this past year and including me as Vice Chair" and said he looked forward to another "great year in Woodbury County." Nelson added that he had "learned a lot this year" while working closely with Bindrum.
Procedural items that followed included a brief, informal exchange about switching seats and administrative updates to meeting materials. The board asked the budget director, Ryan, to update names in the meeting documents.
The board concluded the leadership elections portion of the meeting by moving on to the regular agenda.
The Board of Supervisors will carry out its regular schedule of business under the new chair and vice chair; there were no immediate policy actions tied to the leadership votes.
