Alliant Energy asked Marshall County supervisors Oct. 22 for a letter of support for the proposed Bobcat Energy Center, a peaking-generation facility the company said will run during peak demand to support grid reliability.
Chris Bray of Alliant Energy described the project as part of a balanced portfolio of generation and storage; he said the facility's fast startup (5–30 minutes) would complement renewables and battery storage and would operate mainly in peak periods while the county's Marshalltown generating station continues regular service. Bray said the regulatory review process with the state utilities board typically takes six to 12 months, and Alliant Energy's early completion estimates project Q3 2029.
The board voted to authorize a letter of support. Supervisors indicated they are generally supportive and praised the project's potential contribution to local energy reliability.
