Hurd told supervisors last year’s $21,000 county investment helped leverage $828,192 in services in Dickinson County during the fiscal year she cited (Oct. 1, 2024 through September). She said staff implemented two data systems to produce unduplicated counts and reported UDMO served 1,007 people during the year, noting the average LIHEAP assistance per person was about $500.
Hurd described three housing grants: emergency homelessness (literal homelessness), homeless prevention (at risk of eviction), and a youth homelessness grant (18–24‑year‑old focus) that was delayed by a federal government shutdown but expected to launch in January. She also explained weatherization requires LIHEAP application and home ownership to qualify.
Supervisors discussed county coordination on homelessness responses and asked UDMO to meet with county housing staff and other regional agencies to avoid duplication and align resources. Hurd said UDMO serves as the housing regional lead and welcomed collaborative meetings.
No formal county appropriation was made during the meeting; UDMO's request will be considered in the county’s budgeting process.
