County planning staff presented an application to rezone a 10.53-acre property at 1515 Highway 86 (Parcel 0602126013) from A-1 agricultural to HC Highway Commercial to allow an existing marine services business to relocate and expand. Staff said the change is consistent with the county comprehensive land use plan and that the property’s current taxation and land-use mapping supported commercial designation.
An applicant representative described the need for more space and urged approval. Planning and Zoning had recommended the change on Sept. 15 by a 6–0 vote with the condition that the only allowed use on the parcel would be marine services (as defined in County Zoning Ordinance). A board member moved to rezone; the motion was seconded and carried on recorded roll-call 'aye' votes. The board then voted to waive second and third readings.
The rezoning will allow the applicant to move the marine services operation to the parcel subject to the condition limiting other commercial uses. No board member requested postponement or additional study during the public hearing.
