After a public hearing on Dec. 15, the Finney County Board of County Commissioners approved a 2025 amended budget for Eastside Sewer District No. 1 to provide additional authority for design and project‑related work. County staff told the board the district previously secured a $165,000 grant from the Kansas Water Office for design assistance but later determined that an additional $105,000 was required to finish the design phase.
"On 04/07/2025, the Board of County Commissioners approved a grant agreement with the Kansas Water Office ... providing $165,000 to assist with design work," said Derek, a county staff member presenting the item. He said subsequent fiscal review showed the district's existing 2025 budget authority was not adequate to cover remaining expenditures and that the amendment was necessary because the project spans multiple fiscal years.
Staff recommended approval of the amended budget with total expenditures of $273,390. The amendment, the board was told, does not require new taxes or additional county financial commitments; it increases budget authority for an already‑approved project using funds already available to the district.
There were no public comments at the hearing. After a commissioner moved to approve the amendment and it was seconded, the board voted in favor and closed the public hearing.
The board's approval authorizes the district to use the additional budget authority to complete the design phase; staff said future project expenditures and infrastructure planning will be evaluated as individual projects proceed.
