The Jenkins Independent Board of Education heard a presentation of the district’s 2024–25 KSA assessment results on Dec. 16, with district staff and a presenting administrator saying the data show growth in most assessed areas but continued work is needed in math.
“Tonight’s presentation is not about declaring victory necessarily, but it's about showing you the evidence that we're continuing to move forward in our district,” the presenter said, describing improvements across grade levels while noting that the district fell short of the top color status. The elementary school’s overall index was reported at 54.7 (orange), with a combined reading and math score rising from 49.5 in 2023–24 to 56.7 this year.
Officials emphasized student-level supports and instructional changes as drivers of the gains. The presentation noted a substantial rise in the elementary school climate score (reported as 94.3 this year, up from 74.4) and highlighted that, at the high school level, the district reported a 100% graduation rate.
At the same time, presenters said math performance remains a statewide challenge. “Performance in math has been really, really poor across the state,” one presenter said, adding the district is deploying professional development, coaching, and program adjustments intended to accelerate growth.
Board members and staff framed the results as evidence of progress while acknowledging remaining gaps. The superintendent said the district will continue targeted interventions and framed the improvement plan as a work in progress that staff will present for board approval at the January meeting.
Next steps: district leaders will present a formal improvement plan to the board in January and continue the instructional and program adjustments described during the presentation.
