Marshall County Fiscal Court voted Aug. 19 to commit funds and authorize a request for proposals for an inclusive playground adjacent to the Miracle League field at Mike Miller Park.
Britney (speaker 7), who described design priorities for an inclusive playground, said elements would include sensory areas, transfer stations and accessible surfacing to allow children of varying abilities to play together. The turnkey cost was presented as about $550,000.
Speaker 1 proposed using $256,935 from the Miracle League account and $175,194.29 from the park foundation account and adding roughly $125,000 from county funds (speaker 10 recommended ARPA/residual roof funds as a likely source). Speaker 9 moved to commit the funds; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The court later moved, seconded and approved issuing an RFP for the playground project.
Members clarified the playground will be an inclusive playground on park property near the Miracle League field, not a Miracle League‑branded playground tied to Miracle League approved vendors. The court emphasized the decision allows the county to seek competitive bids and stretch available funds.
The court also discussed continuing fundraising (including a Miracle League gala scheduled Jan. 17 at the Kentucky Dam Convention Center) to cover seasonal costs and capital needs.
