Marshall County rescue squad reports 21 call-outs, new vehicle; court proclaims First Responder Appreciation Day

Kirk Kertner, introduced to give a rescue squad update, told the Marshall County Fiscal Court on Oct. 21 that the squad completed 21 call-outs and recorded over 230 volunteer hours in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026.
"We have 21 different call outs so far the first quarter," Kertner said, and he reported a newly outfitted rescue vehicle was delivered and is road-ready. He described a grant awarded to replace water-rescue equipment (described in the meeting as an approximately 80% grant) and said donations and local fundraising — including a fall photo fundraiser and an anticipated Christmas-lights event at Mike Miller Park — support squad purchases and upkeep.
Kertner said the squad maintains about 25 members and that leaders continually pursue grants to sustain operations. The court thanked the squad and noted the county will publicly recognize first responders next week.
Shortly after the update, Mr. Bagel read a proclamation declaring a First Responder Appreciation Day in Marshall County, enumerating professional and volunteer fire, police, dispatch, emergency medical technician and paramedic roles and praising first responders' community service.
Next steps: the court acknowledged the squad's fundraising plans and advised residents to watch for the First Responder Appreciation Day events.
