Superintendent cites assessment gains and a clean audit at Equity Council meeting

Dr. Bill Bradford, speaking for the superintendent, told the Equity Council the district’s Nov. 24 Board of Education presentation on state assessment and accountability data showed progress in several measures. Bradford said the district marked two consecutive years without identifications for low-performing subgroups for African American students and economically disadvantaged students, and that the number of blue/green (high-performing) schools increased from 21 to 25.
Bradford also reported the district received a “clean, unmodified opinion” on its draft annual audit and said staff would use the draft report’s findings to improve internal controls. He invited ECC members to two district showcase events later in the week and noted the administration’s commitment to follow-up implementation work based on the audit’s recommendations.
Board and ECC planning: Board Member Amy Green previewed next week’s planning meeting, including potential action items on an external audit firm and continuation programming for family resource centers. The ECC chair said she plans to speak at the next Board meeting to clarify the Equity Council’s role after a public comment accused the council of being “weaponized.”
Meeting procedure items: The council approved a short extension of meeting time to accommodate discussion and later adjourned after reports and subcommittee updates.
