FCPS spotlights fall athletes; Dunbar and Bryan Station students and coaches share experiences

The Fayette County Board of Education opened its Dec. 18 meeting by spotlighting student athletes and coaches from across the district. Jackie Gordon Duvall, the district athletic director, introduced the athletics showcase, describing athletics as an "essential pillar" of student development and noting the district fields 32 sanctioned sports.
Dunbar senior Suzanne Estep spoke about how cross country taught discipline and motivated her academically; coach Kylie Rutherford noted program growth and multiple school records. Bryan Station coaches and senior Joaquin Gorant described the soccer team's first run to the state tournament and the leadership it fostered.
Board members congratulated the students and thanked coaches for promoting resilience and the district's portrait of a graduate attributes.
The showcase included a short video and student testimonials; Superintendent Liggins and the chair also welcomed the students and coaches and recognized Suzanne Estep's commitment and college plans.
