Lafourche Parish Council rescinds two purchase agreements, approves budget moves and hears boat‑launch plea

LAFOURCHE PARISH, La. — At its Sept. 9 meeting the Lafourche Parish Council voted to rescind two previously introduced purchase agreements for property at 18594 Highway 3235 in Galliano and approved several routine budget and contract items.
The council passed Ordinance No. 7,050 to rescind one purchase-and-sale agreement and Ordinance No. 7,051 to rescind a related agreement concerning the same property (votes recorded 8 yays, 0 nays, 1 absence in each case). Councilman Lorraine questioned prior publicity about a proposed company for the site and noted the council had limited prior dialogue on the transactions. Parish President Mitchell Ojourant told the council the administration would rescind the Bristow agreement and that two separate ownership interests affected the matter.
During public comments, LaRose resident David Brill urged the council to repair and put the long-delayed Balfour boat launch into use, describing unsafe conditions and limited parking. Brill said the site had not improved in eight years and asked when the parish would bid the work.
Parish administration responded that the parish has a state Wallop‑Breaux grant of about $200,000 and that engineering and permitting were complete but that the initial cost estimate exceeded the grant. The administration said it is pursuing value engineering to bring the project within budget so it can be bid.
Other actions included approval of minutes from Aug. 26, 2025 (motion by Councilman Perk; vote 8 yays, 0 nays, 1 absence), a supplemental budget transfer related to library and building maintenance (Council approved motions after administration said the item moved existing funds rather than adding $4 million), and acceptance of a $2,500 Walmart SparkGood local grant to the operations budget. The council opened and closed the public hearing on ordinances during the meeting and then proceeded to proposed ordinance items.
The council adjourned at 6:13 p.m.
