The Hancock County Commission approved the Bar Harbor Airport’s 2026 operating budget at its Dec. 16 special meeting, voting to adopt a budget totaling $11,277,289.
Airport staff told the commission the proposal includes roughly $125,000 to ready hangar lots for permitting and electrical work. The airport’s financial summary showed undesignated funds of just over $2 million even after planned expenditures. Staff said some of the budgeted transfers will be drawn from earlier COVID-related grants that reimbursed prior operating expenses.
Commissioners asked whether the revenue and expenditure increases were identical and were told the apparent match reflected internal transfers. The commission then moved, seconded and adopted the budget by voice vote.
The vote completes the airport’s annual operating appropriation; staff said next steps include proceeding with permitting and hangar-lot work in spring and providing periodic financial updates to the commission.
