Council approves package of ordinances, resolutions and contracts including $671,768 construction award and FEMA-participating repairs

The Lafourche Parish Council passed a series of ordinances, resolutions and contract actions during its Oct. 14 meeting.
Key votes and actions: the minutes of the Sept. 23, 2025 regular session were approved by voice vote (8–0, 1 absent). The council opened and ratified a public hearing on proposed ordinances. Ordinance calling a special election to authorize continuation of an ad valorem tax was approved (motion passed 8 yays, 0 nays, 1 absent). An ordinance and companion resolution authorized a donation from Pavement Services of reclaimed asphalt pavement; the council thanked administration and approved the measure (8–0, 1 absent).
Procurement and repair actions: the council accepted the low bid from BET Construction Inc. in the total amount of $671,768 for the project titled “Hurricane Ida Repair Renovation Sheriff’s Office Interior Phase 2” and approved a related reimbursement agreement with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office in the amount of $457,896 to cover alternate work. The items were presented together; administration said the sheriff is funding certain additional work and that FEMA participation will reimburse costs after insurance settlement processes are complete. Change orders approved elsewhere in the meeting included an increase of $9,350 and 36 days for the Sugar Ridge Pump Station Rehabilitation contract and a change order increasing the Hurricane Ida Galiano Government Complex Interior rebuild contract by $207,393.37.
Budget process and schedule: the council scheduled the first and second budget public hearings for Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, 2025, both at 5 p.m., and scheduled enactment of the 2026 budget ordinance for Nov. 25, 2025.
Other board business: the council approved a memorandum of understanding with Central Lafourche High School to establish a temporary emergency shelter site; approved a sidewalk agreement with the State Department of Transportation and Development for LA20/St. Patrick Street; and approved various board appointments and administrative agreements.
