Council approves multiple board appointments, school-zone agreements and contract change orders

At its Aug. 12 meeting, the Lafourche Parish Council approved a series of resolutions to fill vacancies and reappoint members to boards and commissions, including appointments to the Communications District Board, Head Start Policy Council, Fire Protection District boards, Veterans Memorial District, Planning Commission (a nomination failed), Commission on Women, and other local boards. Most appointments passed unanimously with one recorded absence (Councilman Pierce); one Planning Commission nominee failed amid concerns about ongoing litigation involving the applicant.
The council also approved an agreement between Lafourche Parish Government and the Lafourche Parish School District for funding from the Houma-Thibodaux MPO for school-zone crossing upgrades (item 22) and an agreement with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to accept and administer funds for the Lafourche School Zones Crossing Upgrades project (item 24). Administration noted the school district will cover a 10% cost share for lights and signage.
On capital projects, the council approved Change Order #1 for the Sugar Ridge Pump Station Rehabilitation (decreasing contract by $5,350.60 and adding 30 days) and Change Order #2 for Hurricane Ida Repairs to the Sheriff's Office interior (decreasing contract price by $119,093.67 and adding 73 days), with administration explaining that some interior work will be funded by the sheriff and additional exterior work will be rebid as an alternate.
