The council unanimously approved a public‑hearing request to vacate an unimproved alley at 303 Tanglewood (between Lots 2 and 3). City staff reported the property owner agreed to allow right‑of‑way access and to install a gate — leaving a 12‑foot wide opening so vehicles and equipment can pass if needed. The motion to approve the vacation (with the gate provision) passed by voice vote.
Councilors also accepted Hett Excavation’s low bid to demolish the house and garage at 120 West Santa Fe. City staff flagged asbestos shingles and recommended the Hett Excavation bid of $7,500 for demolition and hauling. The council voted to award the contract.
The council voted to retain the Lloyd Group to perform the city’s 2025 financial audit after staff and councilors said they had been satisfied with the firm’s prior work and the proposal’s fee.
Several grant items were discussed but left for later action. The council carried a proposal to apply for a tourism attraction grant (to expand a community “rhino” public‑art tour) to the Jan. 5 agenda, and scheduled a special meeting for Dec. 29 to consider whether to apply for a HEAL grant for community‑center repairs — the HEAL program requires an application by year‑end and carries a 1:1 match requirement.
Other procedural votes included shifting three regular meeting dates that fall on Monday holidays to the next business day, scheduling a council study session for Jan. 26, and tabling an update to the city code on placement and timing of trash containers (ordinance 15‑22) while staff work out logistics.
What’s next: Councilors moved the rhino‑tour grant to Jan. 5 so absent members can weigh in, and set a special meeting for Dec. 29 to make a timely decision on the HEAL grant application.
