Letcher County Fiscal Court approved the sheriff’s proposed 2026 operating budget and separately approved the salary schedule for 2026 during its Dec. 15 meeting.
County staff presented amended 2025 numbers and estimates for 2026, including salary planning. The court took three separate motions: accept the overall 2026 sheriff’s budget; approve salaries and wages for 2026; and approve an advancement/appropriation item tied to the sheriff’s office for 2026. Each motion was seconded and passed on roll call.
The court also considered the accounting of a partial excess check from 2025 (a $100,000 item referenced in discussion) and agreed on procedures to return or reassign excess funds as appropriate.
Next steps: county finance staff will finalize budget entries and bring any follow‑up paperwork to the court for ratification.
