County OKs 10-year lease of Franklin Street Lot 24 to Grand Haven for hotel parking

Ottawa County commissioners voted to approve and forward a 10-year lease agreement with the City of Grand Haven for the county-owned surface parking lot on the south side of Franklin Street known as Lot 24.
A commissioner from Grand Haven explained the lease supports a new downtown hotel and that Lot 24 (staff noted roughly 60–69 spaces) is underutilized for county needs. Under the proposed agreement, the city will install gates at its expense, handle pothole repair and restriping, and enforce overnight-parking restrictions; the county will continue to plow and maintain landscaping. The city will share 50% of revenues it receives for hotel-related parking with the county. The lease includes a 90-day termination clause.
Commissioners expressed support for partnering with Grand Haven to support downtown development and approved the motion by roll-call vote.
Next steps: staff will forward the lease to the Board of Commissioners for final action and coordinate implementation details with Grand Haven officials.
