Jim Bright, facilities manager, gave an add-on update on the Health & Human Services (HHS) building remodel, the project the board identified as a priority.
Bright said the project set aside $303,000 for contingency and has spent about $56,000 of that contingency so far. "At this point, we are probably 75% done with mechanicals," he said, adding that structural openings are complete and there are no anticipated large, unbudgeted structural issues. He described upcoming work: inspections on electrical and heating systems, sheetrocking and interior finishes, and an anticipated completion window around June (timeline contingent on punch-list and final inspections).
Bright said technology and security quotes are being finalized (card readers and cameras) and furniture selections are mostly made. He noted typical six-week lead times on many furniture items and that the vendor (Hendrickson) will do a field measure in January before ordering to ensure power/data locations are correct. Bright invited commissioners to walk the project and said construction meetings occur twice monthly.
Commissioners asked about temporary locations, slip hazards at VFW parking (treated with sand and electric heaters for short-term fixes), and furniture delivery timing; Bright said arrangements had been made to address temporary-location issues and that furniture will likely be on site in March–April and staged until move-in.
What happens next: final technology and furniture orders, inspections and punch-list work will proceed; staff will coordinate move-in timing after the project is complete.
