WASECA, Minn. — Commissioners postponed a decision on a proposed Courthouse Park band shell and associated site changes on Monday, asking staff to return Aug. 19 with cost estimates and a park‑wide layout for review.
Speaker 3, reporting for the building committee, recommended the board approve purchase and installation of a band shell at an estimated cost of $143,086 (including concrete and electrical work) paid from assigned interest earnings to avoid a levy impact. The recommended location would require relocating existing playground equipment; staff said replacement playground equipment would likely be grant funded but that moving existing equipment would incur additional expense.
Several commissioners expressed concerns about timing, campsite impacts and preserving the park—s more natural areas. Commissioner Malter and others supported moving playground equipment for safety reasons; other commissioners urged more time and a broader park plan before committing to a band shell.
The board voted to table the band shell action to the second meeting in August (Aug. 19) so staff can prepare safety analyses, cost estimates to move existing playground equipment and a map for the full board.
