The Jackson County Board of Supervisors on Dec. 30 adopted Ordinance 3-20, approving the Karnes rezoning in Monument Township after holding a public hearing that produced no public comment.
Chair Don Swicker opened the hearing and asked whether any written or oral comments had been received. A county official who reviewed the application told the board, "I've looked it over, and I thought it's really self explanatory and much more user friendly," and no members of the public registered opposition.
Following that exchange, a supervisor moved to close the public hearing and later moved to approve Ordinance 3-20 "as presented." The board voted to suspend Robert's Rules to proceed with the second and third readings on the same day. The board then approved the second reading, followed immediately by the third and final reading. Multiple members responded "Aye" and the chair declared the motion carried.
The ordinance, read into the record by a board member, reclassifies a portion of a parcel in Section 19 of Monument Township from the A-1 Agricultural District and the C-1 Highway Commercial District to the new classification specified in the ordinance text.
Because there were no public objections at the hearing and the board completed the required readings, the ordinance becomes the county's action on the rezoning matter; the county clerk's office will publish the proceedings per county practice.
The board did not record any roll-call vote names in the transcript beyond unanimous aye responses.
