Lincoln council elects Richard Pearl mayor and names Whitney vice mayor

The Lincoln City Council on Dec. 9 elected Richard Pearl as mayor and selected Whitney as vice mayor during an annual leadership rotation that follows districting changes.
Council members discussed moving from an older rotation formula to a written policy because the city’s switch to district elections made the previous method less predictable. A council member nominated Pearl for mayor; another council member seconded the nomination and the council approved the appointment by roll-call/voice vote.
Outgoing Mayor Holly Andreatta, who led the council earlier in the meeting, was thanked by colleagues for her year of service. Pearl said he was honored to follow a line of previous mayors and emphasized teamwork between council and staff. Council members said they plan to workshop and formalize a written mayoral rotation policy in the coming year.
No public comment disrupted the nomination process. The council also used the occasion to administer the oath of office and to offer brief remarks about recent accomplishments and challenges facing the city.
The new leadership will preside over regular business and upcoming items highlighted by staff, including an anticipated water master-plan discussion expected in late January or early February.
