Finance committee approves letter requesting Children's Cove caseload and intercounty data with 60‑day deadline

Delegate Bridal moved to approve sending the preferred draft letter (the version that includes paragraphs 8–10), add a new item asking how many cases Children’s Cove expects from Dukes County and Nantucket County, and set a date certain for replies. Vice Chair Killian seconded; the committee approved the motion by roll call.
Members debated timing for a reply. Vice Chair Killian proposed giving the center 60 days to respond; Delegate Frizzell agreed and suggested 60 days from Dec. 15. Clerk Fletcher noted that 60 days from the meeting date would be Feb. 13 and that the commissioner's proposed FY27 budget is due on Feb. 18, so the committee’s request would arrive in time to inform budget review. Several members emphasized flexibility if staff later request more time to compile records.
Committee members discussed the letter’s background material and the center’s history, noting that Children's Cove was established in 1997 as a multi‑agency child advocacy center. The clerk said he would finalize and send the approved letter, aiming to distribute it by the next day or no later than the following Thursday morning.
The committee took the vote unanimously and then adjourned.
