Finney County commissioners authorized creation of a non‑budgeted Director of Communications and Public Information Officer position to centralize countywide communications, support recruitment and coordinate emergency messaging.
Administrator Ramos presented results of an organizational review recommending a centralized communications strategy to address decentralized messaging and recruitment challenges. Staff estimated the annual cost for the director, including salary and benefits, would range from $85,000 to $105,000 depending on experience and said funding exists in GL 001015039 (County General and General Administration salary) with an available balance of $150,000.
Commissioners clarified the new director will report directly to the administrator and the existing communications position in the clerk’s office would be moved under the director, not removed from the clerk’s budget. A motion to authorize the position was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
