During public comment at the Brimfield Township trustees meeting, former trustee‑candidate Dan Mars disputed a Facebook post by a trustee that Dan said had implied improper influence on his campaign and on a fellow candidate. Dan detailed his campaign fundraising procedures and said his campaign treasurer, Patty Hari Young, had accounted for every cent. "There has been no questionable donations or expenditures," Dan said.
Bill Mars, another resident, yielded his remaining time to Dan and urged the trustee who posted the message to apologize publicly or correct the record. Dan described being blocked from the poster’s page and said the public post had harmed his reputation.
A trustee responded in the meeting: "The gentleman that donated to me is a resident... he's not a developer," the trustee said, describing the donor as a neighbor who owns a business in township. The trustee also said they had declined a donation from a company that had reached out.
The board noted that public comment is limited and that, typically, the board does not engage in back-and-forth during the forum, though individual trustees did speak in reply at the meeting. No formal ethics or campaign‑finance enforcement action was taken at the meeting; trustees encouraged that any formal complaints be processed through appropriate channels.
