The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors convened its organizational meeting, appointed its leaders and approved routine administrative items.
The board approved the meeting minutes and amended the agenda to include payroll claims. A motion to appoint Mr. Gensvoldt as chair and Terry Derby as vice chair passed on a voice vote. The board also adopted the county’s 2026 holiday list, which includes Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
Supervisors reviewed dozens of standing committee assignments and board seats — including county representation to juvenile-detention, civil-service and EMS advisory boards — and asked staff to confirm whether potentially dormant advisory panels should remain on the county’s appointment list. Several members asked staff to verify term expirations and whether listed alternates remain willing and eligible to serve.
The board approved county claims and payroll in separate motions before adjourning to its next scheduled session.
What happens next: Staff will follow up to confirm reappointments and to post any vacant positions for boards with openings; the board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for the coming Thursday.
