The presenter said maximum reimbursement would be in the neighborhood of $3,500 and that homeowners must own their property to qualify; properties inside municipal code areas may face additional permitting requirements. "It's a place where they know to seek shelter during a tornado or something," the presenter said of the shelter purpose.
Staff urged residents to apply promptly because unfilled county slots could be reallocated to other counties, and they offered county assistance guiding applicants through the online application and inspection requirements. No county funding decision was made; the program is a federal/state reimbursement grant with homeowner upfront costs and post‑installation reimbursement.
