Fergus County approves land swap, lease with 3 Butte Grazing Ranch for new road shop site

Fergus County commissioners on Aug. 11 approved a land-swap agreement and interim lease with 3 Butte Grazing Ranch to acquire roughly three acres for construction of a new county road shop in Grass Range.
The swap would transfer the county’s existing shop site to 3 Butte Grazing Ranch in exchange for a new parcel where the county plans to build a larger facility to accommodate modern equipment. Commissioners said the county will continue to pay utilities on the existing shop while the lease is in effect, and that the county would pay for a fence at the new property in exchange for favorable lease terms. The parties agreed to leave grazing use in place until construction begins and to add a gate and approach as mutually agreed.
Commissioner (Speaker 7) moved to approve the land swap and the lease agreement as amended in discussion; the motion was seconded and the commission voted in favor. Commissioners said they would stay in touch with the town on water/sewer connections and finalize lease terms and fencing details with the ranch before construction.
