Board honors Extension volunteers and Scott Phillips; approves multiple appointments and reappointments

Granville County commissioners used the Oct. 6 meeting to recognize local volunteers and to confirm multiple board and commission appointments.
Selena McCoy, identified in the meeting as "the director for Cooperative Extension here in Granville County," presented the extension office's annual highlights and volunteer awards. McCoy said the office has conducted about 670 programs, events and site visits since January and reported more than 283,000 attendees across outreach activities; she also said volunteer contacts exceeded 2,300 and that volunteer time was valued at approximately $36,000.44.
The board then recognized Scott Phillips, identified in the record as the county’s Development Services Director, as Granville County’s honoree for the NCACC "Heroic Hands" initiative. Commissioners praised Phillips for more than 26 years of service and for leadership on major county projects such as parks, senior centers and building renovations.
Appointments: the board nominated and approved Carlton Lewis as an alternate to the Board of Adjustment and subsequently appointed him to the Human Relations Commission (District 7). Clerk of Court Yancy Washington recommended and the board approved the reappointment of Adlai Stevenson Woodliffe to the Jury Commission for the biennium ending June 30, 2027. Each nomination and reappointment was approved by voice vote.
Next steps: extension staff offered contact information for volunteer inquiries; new appointees will assume duties per board policy and the clerk’s office will post updated commission rosters.
