Granville County commissioners on Oct. 6 approved setting aside $50,000 to help equip a new weight room at South Bramble High School after staff reported the project exceeded its budget.
Commissioner May told the board the South Bramble project is "about 60 days out from completion" and asked that the county set aside funds to buy exercise equipment, floor padding and other necessary items so the facility could open fully equipped. May said he had discussed the request with commissioners and the county finance director, who recommended the funding come from a contingency silo.
The board moved and seconded the funding request and approved it by voice vote. Commissioner May said that once South Bramble is finished the board will begin work on equipment needs for Oxford Webb, the other athletic project the board had previously agreed to support.
Next steps: county staff will transfer the $50,000 from contingency as directed and work with school officials on procurement for equipment and padding.
