Commissioner Williford moved to allocate an additional up-to-$135,000 this fiscal year (adding to the $15,000 already budgeted for courthouse furnishings/maintenance) to create a $150,000 pool for courthouse upkeep. The motion was amended to direct staff to return with a formal budget amendment and a prioritized plan for how the funds would be spent; the amended motion passed by voice vote.
Several commissioners and staff emphasized the distinction between approving funds conceptually and authorizing specific expenditures: staff will prepare a formal budget amendment and a prioritized list of maintenance needs in consultation with court stakeholders and general services. County staff also said they are addressing janitorial contractor performance and will seek cost-effective, prioritized work that may include targeted carpet cleaning or replacement, painting, and other furniture and safety items.
Next steps: IT will proceed with contract negotiation authority for the access-control and camera upgrade as directed, subject to legal and manager approval; general services and courthouse stakeholders will produce a prioritized plan and a written budget amendment for board approval at a future meeting.
