Troy B. Brethwaite was sworn in as the temporary commissioner for Moyock District 5 during the Currituck County Board of Commissioners meeting on Nov. 3, 2025. Ray Matusco, Clerk of Superior Court, administered the oath of office in the meeting chamber; Brethwaite answered “I do” to the oath and pledged to uphold the U.S. and North Carolina constitutions.
Brethwaite thanked the board for the opportunity and said he looks forward to representing District 5 and supporting constituent needs. He also extended well wishes for the speedy recovery of Commissioner Etheridge, whom he said he has known for many years.
The board recessed briefly after the oath. There was no vote required for the oath itself.
