Granville County approves $253,195 aerial-imagery contract for public-safety and tax mapping uses

Granville County commissioners approved a six-year contract to procure aerial imagery to support public-safety response, emergency management and tax-mapping functions.
County staff explained the proposed contract with EagleView includes two scheduled flights (year 1 and year 4) and a post-disaster flying capability at no additional cost. The product will provide angled imagery that 9-1-1 operators and first responders can use to locate features such as fire hydrants, doors and windows and to compare pre- and post-disaster conditions.
The county manager presented an access policy that defines which county employees and departments will have access to the imagery and when data will be restricted from public release. Commissioners asked whether extra flights after severe flooding would trigger additional costs; staff replied there would be no added expense for post-disaster flights.
A motion was offered and the board authorized a six-year contract totaling $253,195.20 with the vendor named in the motion. The motion passed by voice vote.
Staff said the contract supports 9-1-1 operations, emergency planning and disaster response, and will produce higher-quality before-and-after photographs that can be used during flood response and recovery.
