Grama Black Library renovation: community room open, services continuing during construction

Ellen Snogwracks updated the Swain County Board of Commissioners on the Grama Black Library renovation on Oct. 7, reporting that the facility remains open and most services are operating during construction.
Snogwracks said the front portico is partially removed and that construction zones are clearly marked. Customer parking and a drive-up book drop are in use; an accessible parking space will be added to published materials. "We're operating as normal and have been since, Friday the nineteenth," she told commissioners.
Inside the building, Snogwracks described the relocated circulation desk, reading areas, DVD and new-book collections, computer stations and a temporary children's area that includes a train table and coloring spaces. The community room is in use and holds adult programs, exercise classes and NC Works sessions two days a week. Staff are using Procore software to post photos and project updates and will begin Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings every two weeks starting on the 22nd.
Snogwracks encouraged commissioners and residents to visit and see the progress firsthand. Commissioners asked a few operational questions about signage and emergency exits; Snogwracks confirmed an emergency exit from the community room and noted additional exits to adjacent space.
Next steps: OAC meetings will occur every two weeks, project photos and documents will be available through Procore, and staff will update the board as work progresses.
