Scott told the commission he was not seeking money, only a formal acknowledgment to submit to Congress or include in a record honoring the program and cast members such as Lawrence Welk and Myron Florin. He said he has already received about 45 written documents—proclamations, letters or resolutions—from other counties and invited the commission to consider a similar gesture.

Commissioners asked how many commissions Scott had contacted and whether he could supply sample letters; Scott said he had reached out to multiple states and would be willing to provide draft language. He cited examples of counties in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and others that had offered proclamations or letters, and he said former U.S. Rep. Colin Peterson had given him a letter.

Scott described the show as family-oriented and culturally significant to older viewers, and linked it to Midwestern agricultural and immigrant roots as background for his request. He emphasized the request was symbolic and offered to email draft letters for the commission's consideration.

No commission funding was requested or approved during the meeting; commissioners did not vote on the request during the session and asked Scott to provide sample letters for consideration at a future time.
