Oliver County commissioners approve chip-seal contract, surplus actions and reappoint coroner

Oliver County commissioners approved several formal actions during the meeting, including a county resolution to finalize a state-required contract for a chip-seal road project, authorization of surplus property disposition, and reappointment of the county coroner.

Chip-seal contract: Commissioner Speaker 1 read a resolution authorizing the county chairman to sign a contract with Ashford Surface Technologies for project SC 3300. The read bid amount was $796,743.21; Speaker 1 said the bid came in lower than projected and was considered reasonable. Commissioners moved and seconded the resolution and directed staff to provide signature authority so the county can return the signed documents to the state.

Surplus property and salvage: The board discussed a county boat and a spare that have not been used and moved to advertise the items for bid. Separately, commissioners authorized a salvage arrangement for impounded vehicles with Ray Duffer under a 60/40 split; the motion was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.

Appointments and routine business: The board reappointed Dr. Kisvarie as county coroner and to the Western Plains Public Health board for another five-year term; the motion carried by voice vote. Earlier, the commission approved the payment of county bills by roll call and approved the minutes of November 6 and 10.

What's next: Staff will send the signed chip-seal resolution and contract documents to the state, advertise surplus items per county policy and ensure liquor-license applicants address application deficiencies before the next meeting.
