Commissioners discussed forming a small committee or having an individual commissioner compile a detailed, county-specific cost analysis; staff asked for more time to present a full comparison rather than decide immediately during the budget season. The county provided a near-term estimate that fully buying and upfitting eight vehicles next year would require about $820,000; commissioners asked for refined numbers, fuel-mileage comparisons from peer agencies and projected timing for payback and reserve replenishment.
No procurement decision was made; commissioners directed staff and interested commissioners to prepare detailed cost comparisons and return with a recommendation at a future meeting.
