Seneca County museum readies collections and HVAC work ahead of America250 events

Theresa Sullivan told Seneca County commissioners on Nov. 25 that the county museum has expanded staffing and programming, is deep into a multi-year inventory project and will close temporarily in December so contractors can complete a needed HVAC upgrade.
Sullivan said the museum used a Robert G. Teach grant to hire a part-time inventory assistant and has partnered with Tiffin University and Heidelberg for student projects and curriculum development. She described regular school visits and a popular "junior home" reunion program that brings former students and community donors into the museum.
On facilities, Sullivan thanked the commissioners and county staff for opening HVAC bids and for providing climate-controlled county storage while the third floor and other areas are packed for construction. "We are going to need to close in December and we're always closed in January," she said, explaining the timing aligns with America250 preparations and the scope of work the bids required.
Sullivan also reviewed collections work: the museum uses a PastPerfect inventory system with flash-drive backups and printouts, and staff have documented and photographed thousands of items (the museum estimates more than 5,000 items, possibly 7,000–8,000). She said the foundation will cover a second year of the inventory assistant's contract when the initial Teach-grant-funded year ends in February.
What to watch: Sullivan said the museum plans a driving-tour kickoff event on April 1 tied to Ohio’s transportation month and America250 programming; she said Fort Seneca and related historic sites will be involved and that logistical planning and signage (QR codes) are already in development.
Commissioners expressed support and appreciation for the museum’s work and fundraising partnerships and noted the project’s long timeline and volunteer contributions.
