Benton County staff gave a detailed update on McBee Campground site preparation and funding.
"So, right now, logging has started to clear the way for the required access lanes in the campground," Jesse said, describing on-site logging, a contractor staying on-site for safety and partnership with Bureau of Land Management on trail closures. He said crews salvaged metal roofing and mid-20th-century timber from an unsafe, burned shelter to reuse for future campground features.
Jesse also described sequencing for the project: clearing and timber milling, road and gravel work, drainage and culvert installation over winter, then installation of campsites and amenities in the following season. Staff have solicited restroom vendors and are considering higher-quality, durable restroom structures to match the campground aesthetic. On funding, Jesse said the county has a local-government grant from Oregon State Parks with "$645,000 to spend," about $80,000 of which has been used for pre-archaeology and design; the grant match includes in-kind contributions and the value of a land donation.
Next steps: complete access and drainage work this winter, finalize restroom procurement and pursue connector-trail funding through regional trails grants for a later phase.
