Stigler board approves band trip change, renews superintendent contract and hires custodian

The Stigler Board of Education on Dec. 8 approved a series of routine and personnel actions, including a change of destination for the high-school band trip, a three-year renewal of the superintendent’s contract and the hiring of a grade-school custodian.
The board approved a request to amend the band’s previously approved trip to Nashville, Tenn., and instead go to San Antonio, Texas. Administrators said the change should reduce costs because fewer students plan to attend; the board approved an additional fundraiser to offset remaining expenses. The motion to approve the destination change was made by Kenny Whitson, seconded, and carried unanimously.
During the meeting administrators also presented a financial summary: the general fund balance was reported around 4.3 (compared with about 3.7 at the same time last year) and building-fund reserves at approximately 1.7. Staff noted that child-nutrition reimbursements for September and October were delayed pending approval of required applications.
The board convened in executive session under 25 O.S. §307(B)(1) to discuss superintendent performance and personnel matters; Superintendent Thomas Kettles was present. The board stated upon returning to open session that no motions or votes were taken during the executive session. After returning to open session, the board voted to renew Kettles’ contract for three years beginning with the 2026–27 school year. “Motion by Kenny to approve Doctor Kettles renewing his contract starting in the 2026–27 school year,” the minutes record; the vote was unanimous.
The board also approved employing Colby Ross as the grade-school custodian for the remainder of the 2025–26 school year. Other routine items approved included the minutes from the Nov. 10 meeting and encumbrances and change orders for equipment and school accounts discussed earlier in the meeting.
No new business was brought forward; the meeting adjourned at 6:36 p.m.
