Commissioners approve infrastructure purchases, bridge repair and interlocal agreement with conditions

Lancaster County commissioners on Dec. 2 approved a package of infrastructure procurements and an interlocal agreement affecting county operations.
The board conditionally approved joining the Southeast Nebraska Development District (SEND), requiring SEND to adopt bylaws under consideration before the chair signs the agreement. The motion directs that the chair sign the interlocal only after SEND adopts its bylaws.
The board also approved procurement and contract actions recommended by the County Engineer: a purchase order to Husker Steel Inc. for sheet piling ($39,360); a fall culvert order to Ace e Metals ($72,087.20); purchase of two Gasboy Atlas unleaded dispensers from Midwest Petroleum Equipment ($23,592.71) to replace unrecoverable pumps damaged in a windstorm; and an award to General Excavating for repair of County Bridge K-144 ($218,268.42) with contract language requiring completion before the high school rodeo. The board also approved a small contract to Executive Answering Service for after-hours telephone answering (estimated $5,000 over four years) to improve response to road and bridge issues.
County engineer and staff said several purchases enable more in-house construction capacity and improve responsiveness to citizen calls after hours. All motions were moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
