Historic Review Board names new chair, discusses CLG grants and local landmark priorities

She said the county must apply for CLG grants and listed possible local historic candidates — including the Viola School, the Carys Schoolhouse and an 1860 barn — while noting the designation process is a zoning overlay that can take about six months and requires a board recommendation. In the meeting transcript Joy stated a CLG range as "13 to 15000," and said CLG awards are relatively modest compared with typical restoration costs.
Board members encouraged outreach to community property owners, saying many historic resources across the county merit documentation and potential designation. Joy said staff can assist interested property owners with pre‑applications and the designation process and will update the board on future CLG opportunities. The meeting closed after a brief motion to adjourn and seasonal well‑wishes.
