Commissioner Mann told the Beaver County Board of Commissioners that recent telecommunications work is improving coverage across parts of the county.
"FirstNet ... is now active in Aliquippet, Heinz Field, which should greatly improve the communication along Franklin Avenue in that area," Mann said, describing a new cell tower in Hopewell and the activation of FirstNet service.
Mann also relayed an update from Baker Engineering about broadband expansion: "Verizon has laid 350 miles worth of fiber cable. 1,275 new homes have access now. They've actually gotten 470 subscribers, which is more than they had anticipated... So they have about, 400 addresses or so... left to complete," he said, noting a focus on extending service to rural addresses.
No formal action or vote was taken in the work session on broadband matters; the comments were presented as updates from the commissioners' side of the agenda.
