Elk County honors recycling coordinator Becky Tichenor on retirement after 26 years

Tichenor told the board she took over the program following the death of predecessor Chris Anderson and helped expand the county’s services. “I became a recycling coordinator since September 1999,” she said, noting program growth over her 26 years. Commissioners credited Tichenor with broadening accepted materials to include electronics and household hazardous waste and with building a strong volunteer base and a widely used recycling center.
Commissioner Fowler thanked Tichenor for “26 years of service to the county,” and other commissioners and attendees praised her leadership and volunteer recruitment. The written citation highlighted grants, program expansion and the county recycling center’s influence on regional efforts.
Tichenor said the county’s public, businesses and government support made the programs possible and indicated she may return part time to assist until a replacement is hired. The board presented the formal citation and photos, and members encouraged continued community support for the recycling program.
