At the close of formal business, Jefferson County commissioners used public information time to outline local projects and grant awards slated for completion or planning in 2026.
The presiding official highlighted the Snyder Hill project, funded by an LSA grant of $817,000 and expected to finish in February, and acknowledged state lawmakers for support. He also noted county-supported capital projects including Muncie Hospital paving ($1,000,000) and JapTech roof efficiency improvements ($1,300,000), and said Jefferson County Children and Youth Services was recently reinstated to full licensing.
The county reported securing a $9,500 grant to develop a subdivision and land-development ordinance. Officials said the county replaced a building generator with funding from the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP) insurance grants and intends to use lodging tax funds through the Jefferson County Development Council (JCDC) to expand tourism promotion.
Elise, the county's CDBG coordinator, announced a public hearing in Brockway on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. for a competitive CDBG application to address borough-wide asbestos-related water-system problems, including replacement of a water-storage tank and partial water-main replacement. She encouraged community participation to support the borough's application for additional funds.
Mary Milford, tourism lead, said Jefferson County will be featured in Bridal Taste and Tour magazine and previewed a winter recreation promotion to highlight local outdoor attractions, short-term rentals and events such as Groundhog Day and Cook Forest. She provided an online link for the magazine feature.
Commissioners used the announcements to thank staff for work on grants, public-safety equipment and tourism development and closed public information before moving to brief public comments.
