Resident says two-axle trailers barred at Murph Recycling Center; county schedules special Solid Waste meeting

"Our citizens of Haywood County deserve better than being charged a fee," Rogers said, asking the county to clarify whether the restriction is a county rule or contractor policy and to consider accommodations for small haulers.
Commissioners and county officials acknowledged they had received several calls about the same problem and said the Solid Waste Committee would hold a special meeting after the commission session to work with the contractor and address convenience-center procedures. An official said the county will "work through some issues" with the contractor to better serve the public; no specific policy change or timetable was stated at the meeting.
Mary Ann Widenhaus, speaking separately during public comment, urged broader use of peer support in behavioral-health work inside the detention center and thanked Sheriff Wilkie for allowing volunteers access. That comment was separate from the recycling discussion and prompted no formal action.
What’s next: County officials said they will convene the Solid Waste Committee to examine the Murph/White Oak routing and fee policy; the meeting was announced but no vote or ordinance change was recorded during the Oct. 6 session.
