The resolution also asks for flexibility in tools available for shoreline stabilization, including consideration of hardened structures or artificial reefs recommended by the Coastal Resources Commission science panel.
Board members discussed fiscal responsibility and emphasized the county is not committing itself to immediately construct hardened structures or to levy new local taxes. One commissioner said the resolution is meant to "hold [state lawmakers] feet to the fire" and obtain funding the legislature previously established but has not appropriated.
The board approved the resolution by voice vote; commissioners noted the proposal would not bind the county to a specific shoreline project but would ask for state funding and greater flexibility in stabilization options.
