County to advance up to $305,000 for Federal Building flat roof pending grant reimbursement

Greenwood County approved a budget amendment Dec. 16 to advance funds so the Arts Council can begin a flat-roof replacement at the jointly owned Federal Building.
Treasurer Stephanie Dorn told council the Arts Council secured a $200,000 grant from the Department of Archives and History but that grant funding works on a reimbursement basis. Staff reported bids for the flat roof are in hand but the Department of Archives and History must confirm contractors will honor prices outside the initial quote period. Based on existing quotes, staff estimated a maximum project cost of $410,000. The city agreed to pay half the remaining difference (about $105,000), and the county was asked to advance up to $305,000 using hospitality funds — the $105,000 county share plus fronting the $200,000 grant reimbursement — pending final invoices and reimbursement.
The resolution also authorized the county manager to sign agreements with the Arts Council of Greenwood County and the Department of Archives and History after review by the county attorney. Council approved the resolution on a voice vote.
