Brown County defers decision on rodeo contractor after receiving multiple bids

Fairgrounds/Parks Manager Rachel Gipley read bid summaries: Bailey Pro Rodeo proposed a three-year total of $157,500 ($52,500 per year); Big Bucks Pro Rodeo proposed $55,000 for 2026 with a 3% escalator in subsequent years; Dakota Rodeo submitted a three-year total of $109,000 (2026: $35,000); a bid signed by Dale Quinn showed a three-year total of $315,002.50 (2026: $100,000; 2027: $105,000; 2028: $110,002.50); and Barnes/TRCA Rodeo (signed by Weston Barnes) submitted a three-year total of $165,000 with annual increases. Gipley said the bids include differing hotel-room and logistical requirements.
Gipley asked the commission to defer a decision so staff can consult the fair board and rodeo committee. A motion to defer for one week was moved and seconded; the commission voted 'aye' and the motion carried.
